Experience the rise of modern dance in America in a showing of the documentary, Miss Hill: Making Dance Matter. The film tells the story of Martha Hill and her inspiring journey to make dance a legitimate art form in America. Born in East Palestine, Ohio, she rose to become the first director of dance at The Julliard School. The documentary is a beautiful mix of archival footage and interviews from the people who knew her.

See the film Friday, April 3, at 7:30 pm & Saturday, April 4, at 7:05 pm at The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque.

The legacy Martha Hill built at Julliard has continued to this day and persists to develop amazing dancers. Groundworks has seen this talent first hand having hired three Julliard dancers, including our current company member, Annika Sheaff.
