Summer Workshops, Classes and More

To accompany our summer performances at Heinz Poll and Arts in August, GroundWorks company members will also be hosting a number of events. See below for the full list of upcoming opportunities to get more involved with GroundWorks DanceTheater.

Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival

August 1, 3, and 5, 4:00pm – 5:00pm at the Balch Street Fitness Center: This year Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival is working with a new partner from Ballet Excel called the Reach Out and Dance program, which will offer workshops in Akron neighborhoods each festival week. These FREE classes are open to ages 7-11 and will include an opportunity to meet a professional dancer from the week’s performing company at one of the classes. GroundWorks Dancer Damien Highfield will be participating to share his experience with the students.

August 6^th, 11:00am – 12:00pm, Guzzetta Hall (Albrecht Studio): Join GroundWorks dancer Michael Marquez for a master class presented by the festival. Classes are held at the University of Akron Center for Dance and Theater in Guzzetta Hall. Parking is available in the visitors deck. The cost, due at time of the class is $10. August 5^th and 6^th, 7:45pm – 8:45pm, Glendale Cemetery: Just prior to the GroundWorks DanceTheater performances at Heinz Poll, students from the University of Akron Dance Institute will present an interactive demonstration.

Arts in August

August 12^th, 7:30pm – 8:30pm, Lincoln Park: Join GroundWorks Education Director, Mark Otloski, as he leads an interactive movement experience before the performance.
