“We Three” by Robyn Mineko Williams was the first new work I was a part of during my time with Groundworks. The three week process to create the work was deeply enjoyable and fulfilling. Robyn led the room with a quiet patience and appreciation for what each of us brought to the table. The room had a constant sense of calm, but forward moving energy that was really comfortable and exciting to be a part of. Each morning entering the studio I was excited to be a part of the day’s creation.

The resulting work holds a lot of those similar qualities. “We Three” never jumps out in your face to make a loud statement, instead the piece opts for a calm, but forward moving approach towards exploring the tensions of relationships. As a viewer you get to see multiple perspectives of different relationships which act as a canvas for relationships in your life. As performers I feel this piece gave us the opportunity to explore quirks in our personalities and the relationships we had with one another. Whether it be Michael’s opening solo, the group photo section, or one of the duets, the presence of each character on stage contributes vitally to the dancing in the forefront. Being in character on stage as almost a living piece of architecture was one of my favorite parts of performing “We Three”.
