Maltz Exhibit Violins of Hope Inspires New @GroundWorksDanc Work @PlayhouseSquare

Fri 10/16 @ 8PM

Sat 10/17 @ 8PM

When GroundWorks DanceTheater’s 4th annual fall concert series in partnership with Cleveland State University comes to PlayhouseSquare’s Allen Theatre, the company will be bringing two brand new pieces, both world premieres.

One of those should be especially powerful. The company’s artistic director David Shimotakahara has choreographed a work inspired by the new Violins of Hope exhibit at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, whose centerpiece is violins rescued from concentration camps after the Holocaust. It features an original score by Israeli composer Oded Zehavi.

The evenings will also feature a new work by guest artist Kate Weare; it’s her second commission for the group. Rounding out the programs is Unpublished Dialogues by choreographer Lynn Taylor-Corbett, a take on the life of writer Virginia Woolf.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
