It was an intimate afternoon of dance and lively discussion on Friday as we presented an inside look into award-winning New York choreographer Adam Barruch’s new work, “Hex,” which will debut at GroundWorks’ 14th annual Summer Concert Series beginning on July 15 at the Alma Theater in Cain Park.
Guests enjoyed an up-close showing of the dynamic piece, one that Barruch describes as an exploration of a magical text and how this “book” contains access to a kind of universal power.
Company dancers Felice Bagley, Lauren Garson, Damien Highfield, Michael Marquez and Stephanie Terasaki performed the emotionally charged work with energy and passion, allowing guests to ponder and later engage in discussion with Barruch himself.
“I’m always really fascinated by people’s questions and observations and it was exciting to hear how the piece affected the audience that was in the studio that afternoon,” Barruch said. “There was one woman in particular who said she held her breath during moments in the piece, wondering what was going to happen next. I love that the audience was challenged and drawn in to the work.”
Audiences will certainly not want to miss the exciting world premiere of “Hex,” on July 15, 16 and 17 at Cain Park’s Alma Theater in Cleveland Heights and August 5-6 at Heinz Poll at Glendale Cemetery in Akron.
