In the spring of 2019 GroundWorks was very pleased to have the opportunity to work again with renown choreographer/director and Cleveland native Dianne McIntyre. Her first collaboration with the company in 2009 titled “Just Yesterday,” embodied the importance of acknowledging life stories from across generations. It had a great impact with audiences of all ages.
With this most recent project titled “The Witness,” Dianne continued to draw upon her extensive experience re-combining narration and movement, realizing her unique approach to Dancetheater. At the beginning of her process Dianne gathered material from interviews with each of the dancers. She is as attuned to the sound and feeling of words as she is to their meaning and she incorporated those layers of understanding working with the dancers. In addition to stories brought to life by each of the dancers Dianne structured all of the action on and around two chairs whose positions remain fixed.
